Elvis Rocks The Hilton

August 25th, 2020

Between 2007 and 2016 Straight Arrow has released twenty of the so called ‘sound booth’ recorded concerts. After starting with Kicking And Rolling in 2007, Faded Love and You Don’t Have To Say You Love Me in 2010, they decided to create a mini-series called ‘From the booth tapes’. From 2013 to 2016 they have released nine volumes, and now the right time has arrived to introduce the tenth

The August 20th 1973 Midnight show ‘sound booth’ recording was first released by the legendary Fort Baxter label on A Profile – The King On Stage Vol. 1 boxset in 1995. Since then it has been re-released several times, but never from the original source, never totally complete, and with an incorrect pitch – until now!

Both the August 31st D/S and September 2nd 1973 M/S were released (by our own sub-label called Vegas Strip) in 2008 with Getting Down The Business and High Spirit In Vegas. The sound on these CDs was speed-corrected by one of their colleagues back then but unfortunately, the pitch was still not quite right

For this new release all three shows came directly from the RCA tape duplications Chromdioxide compact cassettes (the reproductions of individual cassettes can be seen within the artwork on this title, although it’s worth noting that the August 31st D/S was mislabeled on the cassette as the August 30th D/S)

The engineers were able to edit the missing parts of the August 31st D/S and September 2nd M/S shows using another source, recorded by a fan in the UK. All three shows have been meticulously pitch-corrected

They have repaired the incomplete The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face and How Great Thou Art from the August 31st 1973 D/S to make it complete. These tapes were never in circulation before, and they are of excellent quality

As usual, this release is presented in a deluxe triple digipack with a collection of images taken on and off stage during Elvis’ 1973 Las Vegas Summer season

If you have enjoyed our previous ‘From the booth tapes’ releases, you will love this one as well
